CREDENTIAL YEAR PORTFOLIO

Completed as a part of the UC Davis Single Subject Credential, 2021-2022

Engaging and Supporting All Students in Learning

I think I entered the credential program with a kind of innate desire to teach students' Funds of Knowledge and engage them through their out-of-the-classroom literacies, however, I did not know what exactly that could look like- and I definitely didn’t know terms like Funds of Knowledge. Over the course of the year, I feel my instinctual interest in leveraging students’ personal experiences and interests to promote engagement, combined with the coursework concerned with connecting learning to students’ prior knowledge, combined to create quite a bit of a professional growth spurt. The following artifacts track the ways in which I, as an educator, have grown and evolved to best engage and support all students in learning.

Creating and Maintaining Effective Environments for Student Learning

I am a firm believer that students can not learn when they do not feel safe, heard, or comfortable. Because of that, I knew when I entered the credential program that I would need to build relationships not only between myself and my students, but also between my students and each other. I remember entering my long term student teaching placement and asking my students, “How will we have each other’s back in this space?”. I have tried every day since to grow my repertoire of professional skills and strategies that can be used to  promote student learning, reflect diversity, and encourage constructive and productive interactions among students within the classroom community. The artifacts listed here are evidence of my growth in this area, considering all the triumphs and challenges that come out of working with thirty-three teenagers.
